Helmut Marko claims Max Verstappen factor to make the difference for Red Bull

Red Bull has been facing multiple unexpected struggles in the 2024 season. The Austrian team has already lost out on three races out of the eight total. Hence, Milton Keynes hopes to turn around the results with Max Verstappen as soon as possible to start scoring dominant victories. Helmut Marko expects the results to get better by the Spanish GP, however, if the team fails to do so, there could be issues.

Red Bull’s newfound struggles have been speculated to be due to Adrian Newey‘s shocking exit from the team. Additionally, Milton Keynes was suspected of ‘playing down’ Max Verstappen‘s feedback about the simulator data error in the challenger. Regardless, the team is highly dependent on Verstappen to score great results for the team. Helmut Marko highlighted that at tracks where the team fails to perform well, the ‘Max Verstappen factor’ will help them win the races.

I believe that the Verstappen factor will be decisive even on tracks that are less favorable for us.

Apart from this, the 80-year-old applauded Verstappen’s racecraft in the pinnacle of motorsport. Marko claimed that the Dutchman was in his ‘top form’ and made the difference on the track. According to the Austrian, no other driver on the grid could drive like the 26-year-old without committing any mistakes on the track.

He is in top form and makes the difference. There is no other driver who can drive at the limit of every lap of the race without making mistakes.
Helmut Marko added.

Helmut Marko reveals ‘nervous’ RB20 made Max Verstappen commit mistakes at the Monaco GP

Max Verstappen is often regarded as the driver who doesn’t commit any mistakes. However, the Monaco GP was an exception as the Dutchman couldn’t manage to gain much on the rivals. The slim streets of the Monte Carlo circuit further increased the issues for the 26-year-old. Marko commented that the RB20 had more trouble riding over the curbs which Ferrari managed to handle much better.

The Ferrari literally floated over the kerbs in the swimming pool, so it was out of reach. We had more trouble riding over the kerbs, but the kangaroo was in play for us. That was relatively well adapted for qualifying and we could assume that Max would have been on the front row of the grid.
Helmut Marko said, as reported by speedweek.com.

However, the entire Monaco GP loss wasn’t on Max Verstappen at all. The reigning world champion attempted his best to gain any sort of advantage in Monaco. But, the ‘nervous RB20’ caused the Dutchman to commit multiple mistakes and lose the chance of gaining anything. Hence, the team will look over the issues and try to fix them by the Canadian GP.

But of course, when you have a car that is so nervous, even a driver like Max can make a mistake.
Helmut Marko noted.

Max Verstappen will continue to provide crucial feedback regarding the challenger and the troubles. The Dutchman isn’t hesitant to put out his frustrations to the team over a race weekend. Hence, Red Bull will have to bring in multiple in-season upgrades to hold the lead against Ferrari and McLaren. The top teams could soon close in on each other for the world championship.
